It wasn’t the biggest snowfall of the season, but it was still enough to catch many people off-guard.

After a late March that made things feel like spring was arriving earlier than anticipated, southwestern Ontario was hammered with two separate snow systems in the first few days of April.

In total, Waterloo Region saw about 25 cm of snowfall – about 60 per cent of which occurred Sunday.

Harder hit was Hamilton, where 22 cm of accumulation was reported.

Waterloo Regional Police said the coating of snow didn’t make for a treacherous morning drive, with only two collisions reported as of 8 a.m.

Temperatures are expected to remain below freezing into Tuesday, but conditions will remain dry at that time.

Looking further ahead, Wednesday’s forecast calls for a high of 6 C in Waterloo Region and rain or snow, with a chance of flurries continuing into a warmer Thursday.
