A police search involving a canine unit failed to turn up the man who allegedly grabbed a woman in the parking lot of the Cambridge Kips Gymnastics Club.

According to Waterloo Regional Police, a woman was in the Hamilton Street parking lot shortly after 9 p.m. Wednesday when she was grabbed by the man, who then hit her and attempted to drag her into a nearby wooded area.

“She was savvy enough to break free of that and was able to get to a secure location to contact police,” police spokesperson Alana Holtom told CTV News.

“We are appealing to the community for more information.”

Police describe the man as being in his 20s and 5’10” tall, with a skinny build. They say he was wearing a black ski mask, black coat and black ski gloves.

The victim is an employee of the gymnastics club, which has notified its members about the incident.

“We are very grateful that it wasn’t any worse,” said recreation director Jacqueline Douwes.
