Waterloo Regional Police are now investigating nearly a dozen “creepy” clown sightings.

The latest incident happened Sunday around 11:30 p.m. near Albert Street in Waterloo.

Police say three people dressed as clowns chased a woman with a stick.

She ran to a nearby Tim Hortons for help.

Officers searched the area but couldn’t find the culprits.

Clowns have also been spotted at local university campuses and schools.

“I don’t know why anybody would think to do that,” says Amanda Brunk, who has two children. “That is awful.”

Although no one has been hurt, Sgt. Michael Haffner with the Waterloo Regional Police says they’re concerned about possible retaliation.

“Things have been happening in other municipalities and other places in Canada and the U.S. where these individuals dressed up as clowns have been attacked and assaulted as a result of their attempts at a prank.”

Police say they’ll be increasing patrols in areas where clowns have been reported.
