A combine fire was contained before it could spread to nearby crops Thursday afternoon.
Firefighters were called to a farm on Brant-Waterloo Road, east of Ayr Road, around 3:30 p.m.
Fire officials say the fire started in the combine’s engine compartment and then spread to the rubber belts while it was being operated by a farmer working in a cornfield.
The flames were quickly knocked down before the fire could spread past the combine.
Damage is estimated at $10,000 – the value of the older-model combine.
