Attempted murder charges have been laid in connection with the shooting of three men on Wellington Street in Kitchener nearly three months ago.

Around 4:50 a.m. on June 30, four men were targeted while walking on Wellington Street near King Street. Three men were wounded in the legs and back while one escaped uninjured.

The Waterloo Regional Police Service (WRPS) have now charged both Mark Robert Lucas, 26, and David Russell Tanner, 28, with four counts of attempted murder.

An additional Canada-wide warrant has been issued for Lucas, who was already wanted on separate firearms offences. He was last known to be living in Kitchener.

WRPS Staff-Sgt, Chris Downey says “Mr. Lucas has been a priority for us for some time and there’s not another level to step up to.”

Tanner is already in custody. He was arrested for firearms offences in connection with the same incident. The weapon used in the shooting has been recovered.

Lucas is described as a white male, 6’1” tall, weighing around 200 pounds with long dark hair and possibly a full beard.

He is known to wear a long, dark trench coat or hoodie with the hood pulled up over his hair. He is also known to travel by bicycle or skateboard, but may now try to travel farther.

Police say he is considered armed and dangerous and warn the public not to approach him.

Downey adds “We just want everybody to be very cautious and be aware that Mr. Lucas may have access to weapons still.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 519-653-7700 Ext. 8666 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.

Police are also still looking to speak to the person seen driving a black Ford F-150 in the area at the time of the shooting.
