Norfolk OPP investigating series of suspicious fires

Investigators from the Ontario Provincial Police Norfolk County Crime Unit are seeking the public’s help as they investigate a series of suspicious fires.

In the early morning hours of Monday, the OPP, along with the Norfolk County Fire Department, responded to a structure fire on Windham Road 11 in Delhi.

Investigators determined the building was unoccupied and no one was hurt. The fire is being treated as suspicious and is currently under investigation by the Norfolk County OPP Crime unit.

Between Nov. 12 and Dec. 27, police, in coordination with the local fire department and paramedic services, responded to “multiple structure fires across the county,” all of which are also being investigated as suspicious.

The OPP says the following dates, times and location are of particular note:

  • Tuesday, November 12, 2024, at approximately 10:38 p.m. - Windham East Quarter Line Road, Simcoe.
  • Wednesday, November 13, 2024, at approximately 1:03 a.m. - Windam Road 13, Simcoe.
  • Tuesday, November 26, 2024, at approximately 10:19 p.m. - Fourteenth Street West, Simcoe.
  • Wednesday, November 27, 2024, at approximately 12:03 a.m. - 10th Concession Road, Langton.
  • Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at approximately 4:09 a.m. - Highway 24 near Concession 11 Townsend.
  • Thursday, December 19, 2024, at approximately 11:40 p.m. - Concession 10 Townsend, Waterford.
  • Friday, December 27, 2024, at approximately 12:33 a.m. - St. John's Road West, Simcoe.

“The affected structures have been identified as residences, greenhouses, barns, or other outbuildings,” police said in a media release. “Fortunately, no injuries have been reported in connection with these incidents. The Norfolk County OPP Crime Unit is actively investigating these incidents and is seeking the public's help. Anyone with relevant information is encouraged to contact the police at 1-888-310-1122. Residents in the affected areas are also asked to check their home surveillance systems for any footage that may assist with the investigations. Additionally, motorists who were travelling on any of these roadways around the time of the incidents and may have witnessed suspicious activity are urged to contact the police immediately.”
