Man charged with impaired driving after reversing into vehicle in Guelph: police

A Guelph driver is facing impaired driving and resisting arrest charges after police said he backed up into a vehicle on Thursday.

Police were called to the Downey Road and Niska Road area around 11:35 p.m.

They were told a driver missed his driveway and stopped in the middle of the road. Police said the driver threw his vehicle into reverse and hit another vehicle behind him, causing significant damage.

Police were told the driver then took off.

Investigators said the man drove around the area for several minutes before pulling into his driveway and parking the vehicle.

Officers spoke with him at 11:47 p.m. and although the man tried to resist, he was eventually arrested.

A 68-year-old Guelph man has been charged with operation while impaired, failure to stop after an accident and assaulting a police officer with intent to resist arrest.
