A Kitchener man is facing a number of charges after allegedly breaking into houses, stealing valuables and weapons from inside, and helping himself to some of the residents’ food while in their homes.
Waterloo Regional Police announced the 30-year-old man’s arrest Wednesday, eight days after it occurred.
They said that his arrest came as a result of investigation into 30 break-ins to homes in Kitchener, all of which occurred between Sept. 2 and Oct. 3.
According to police, homes owned by elderly residents seemed to be targeted, and that the man allegedly pried open doors and windows to get into the homes.
Many of the houses hit were in the area around Westmount Road and Queen’s Boulevard or the area around Belmont Avenue and Highland Road. Other affected addresses include properties on Traynor Avenue, Peter Street and Courtland Avenue.
Jewelry, electronics, cash and guns were all reported stolen. Police say the man also grabbed food and drinks from the homes and ate them while inside.
Police say they have found some of the stolen items and returned them to their owners, but other stolen property remains unaccounted for, including five guns.
Anyone else who thinks they may have been a victim in this series of break-ins is asked to call police at 519-653-7700 ext. 4407.
