Rainfall Saturday didn’t dampen the spirits of students at Wilfrid Laurier University in Brantford; hundreds attended events for the sixth annual homecoming.

“I love the Laurier spirit! It's a lot of fun just to get out with your colleagues,” said Sarah, a third year student.

“It's pretty amazing to see the student turn out. We know we have a very spirited group of students here on our campus, and of course it's great to see the alumni coming back home,” said Beth Sanders who is with Alumi Relations at Laurier Brantford.

Money raised will go back into programming for students and alumni at the university.

“I think it's really cool. It shows that this campus is developing a lot. It's come a long way since my first year which is really cool to see,” said Luc Daviau, a fourth year Laurier student.

Brantford police say that any partying should be done safely this weekend.

According to police, two separate keg parties, hosted by students off campus, were shut down Saturday morning.

Several kegs were taken, and no charges were laid.

“Over 473 tickets had been sold to these parties. Due to the public safety nature, that's why the liquor was seized,” said Michael Reid of the Brantford Police.

Brantford Police want to remind student’s partying to be safe and use the buddy system Saturday night.
