One person has died following a motorcycle collision on Highway 403 between Paris and Brantford.
Brant County OPP received a report of the crash around 11:35 a.m. involving a motorcycle.
Police say a husband and wife from Michigan were eastbound on Highway 403 on their Harley Davidson. They were between Oak Park Road and Paris Road in the right-hand lane when the crash happened.
According to Brant County OPP Const. Ken Johnston, the initial investigation indicates that the crash may have been caused by a mechanical error. Johnston says “It does appear as if the motorcyclist, for some reason… everything locked up and he lost control of the bike.” He added that it appears that speed was not a factor in the crash.
The couple was thrown from the bike as it crashed into the ditch. The husband suffered minor injuries while his wife, who was behind him on the bike, was seriously injured. The two were transported to local hospital by ambulance. 50-year-old Michelle Huggins of Sterling Heights, Michigan was pronounced dead on arriving at hospital.
The highway remained closed to eastbound traffic between Oak Park Road and Paris Road for about four hours.
