Waterloo Regional Police say they’ve charged a teenager with arson in connection with Tuesday’s fire at Preston High School.

The fire prompted an evacuation of the school and an early end to the school day.

Firefighters arrived at the scene to find heavy smoke coming from a corridor and stairwell at the school’s back end.

It is believed that papers and other items were set on fire in that area.

One staff member of the school was taken to hospital to be treated for symptoms of smoke inhalation.

Police announced Friday that a 17-year-old had been arrested in connection with the fire.
