Waterloo Regional Police are investigating what they say is a homicide.

Police were called to the Comfort Inn at 220 Holiday Inn Drive just after 2 p.m. on Saturday where they discovered two people with stab wounds inside one of the rooms.

Police found a 38-year-old female with no vital signs and a 48-year-old man with life threatening stab wounds.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene the man was rushed to Cambridge Memorial Hospital. He is under police guard and is expected to recover.

Homicide detectives and divisional detectives have been called in to investigate. They now say the 38-year-old woman worked at the hotel, and that she was in a long term relationship with the man found injured beside her.

The identity of the deceased woman is not being released at this time pending notification of next of kin.
