One person has died and two remain in hospital with serious injuries following a crash near Mount Forest.

Two vehicles collided head-on shortly before 10 a.m. Tuesday on County Road 14, just south of Highway 89 and east of Mount Forest.

Wellington County OPP say the vehicles involved were a northbound Mazda 3 and a southbound Hyundai Santa Fe.

A female passenger in the Hyundai was taken to Hamilton General Hospital by air ambulance, where she died of injuries suffered in the crash.

She was later identified as Virginia Wiley, a 61-year-old Meaford resident.

The female driver of the Hyundai was taken to a Mount Forest hospital by land ambulance, while the male driver of the Mazda was taken to Hamilton by land ambulance.

Police say both are in serious condition.

A German shepherd mixed-breed dog named Sidney was in one of the vehicles involved in the crash, ran away from the scene and has not been seen since.

Dense fog was reported in the area at the time of the crash.

Wellington County OPP continue to investigate.
