There isn’t any snow on the ground, but that doesn’t mean cars can be left out on city streets overnight any longer.
Dec. 1 marks the date when winter parking regulations come into effect in Kitchener and Guelph.
In Kitchener, on-street parking is banned between the hours of 2:30 a.m. and 6 a.m. until March 31.
If a snow event is declared, there is no parking on city streets at any time of day.
Vehicles left on the street during a snow event may be ticketed $80 and towed away.
Guelph’s overnight parking ban is slightly longer, lasting from 2 a.m. to 6 a.m. Like Kitchener’s, it runs until the end of March.
Residents outside the city’s downtown can apply for parking exemptions, but those exemptions can be cancelled at any point if a winter storm hits the city.
Waterloo does not have special rules for on-street parking during winter. Vehicles are forbidden from parking on city streets between 2:30 a.m. and 6 a.m. at all times of the year, unless they have applied for and received a parking exemption.
All overnight parking across Waterloo can be banned if the city declares a snow ban.
In Cambridge, on-street parking is not permitted between 2:30 a.m. and 6 a.m. from Jan. 1 until March 15, or at any time if a snow event has been declared.
