Watermain repairs in Kitchener cause rush hour traffic detours

A watermain repair near King Street East and Fairway Road South in Kitchener closed eastbound lanes Friday morning.

Drivers had to divert to River Road East to continue eastbound toward Cambridge.

The emergency repairs were scheduled for Friday at midnight after the watermain broke Tuesday afternoon.

Water for businesses and residents in the area was shut off overnight and into morning as city staff worked on repairs.

The city told CTV News in an email service was restored by 9:55 a.m. and roads were set to open by Friday at noon as the work wrapped up.
