Two people were taken to hospital with serious injuries following a three-vehicle crash east of Listowel.

Perth County OPP say the crash happened around 10:30 a.m. Wednesday on Perth Line 86, near Road 152.

According to police, a minivan was following a tractor-trailer westbound prior to the crash.

The driver of the minivan allegedly attempted to pass the truck, during which the front corner of the van came into contact with the truck.

This caused the driver of the minivan to lose control and spin across both lanes of traffic, where it was hit by an eastbound sedan.

Due to the force of that crash, the minivan rolled over and landed on its driver’s side, trapping the driver.

The sedan remained upright, but a passenger it was carrying was also trapped.

Firefighters were able to extricate both people from their vehicles.

The minivan driver, a 21-year-old Waterloo woman, and the 79-year-old Tiverton man in the sedan’s passenger seat were taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the sedan, a Tiverton resident, was treated for minor injuries, while the Cambridge man driving the tractor-trailer was unhurt.

Perth Line 86 was closed for several hours for investigation and cleanup efforts.
