Jakob Beacock, a 13-year-old member of the Waterloo Ice Wolves minor bantam hockey team, died in hospital Tuesday morning.
Beacock was admitted to hospital last week with complications related to appendicitis.
On Sunday, his teammates held a fundraiser at The Aud and raised $1,400 for his family.
“Jakob would be here, Jakob would be organizing this if it was any other child,” Rob Fleming, Beacock’s coach, told CTV News.
At the time of the fundraiser, Beacock was on life support at a Hamilton hospital.
