A bid to support the 2012 Canada Summer Games was pitched at Waterloo Council Monday night.

The Regional Sport Tourism Office submitted a letter of intent and initial deposit for the bid.

The bid will include Cambridge, Kitchener, Waterloo and Guelph.

Waterloo’s Mayor Dave Jaworsky is signing a letter of support for the games to come to the area.

The letter of intent needs to be submitted by May 20, 2016 and further review will be submitted to the Canada Games Council by the end of June. Once that is done, phase one of the process will be completed.

In September the Canada Games Council will release a list of communities they have selected to go onto phase two of the bid.
