Vintage Videos: Highlights from the CKCO archive

Broadcasting from Kitchener, Ont. since 1954, CTV Kitchener’s cameras (formerly known as CKCO-TV) have been at some of southwestern Ontario’s biggest moments.

For this Vintage Videos series, we’re taking a look at a the lighter side. Check back each Thursday for a new video from our vault and some feel good nostalgia.

Watch the 1992 Oktoberfest opening ceremonies in this week's installment.

You can also watch previous editions. Last week, as the Rangers geared up to start their 2023 season, we travelled back to 2002 to see how the then head coach Peter DeBoer felt about the upcoming season.

There’s also the 1997 Terry Fox Run in Waterloo.

Or the 1997 dragon boat races in Stratford. The event, only in it's second year, boasted 1,600 competitors.

You can watch a throwback to the 2002 Shinerama fundraiser hosted by Wilfrid Laurier University. People could get their car cleaned for a good cause -- to raise money for the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. It's a classic event that still goes on today.

Or watch our coverage of the 1999 Waterloo Busker Carnival. You’ll see a broadcaster turned straight-jacket escape artist, a caricaturist and plenty of cute kids enjoying the festivities.

Finally, we have a special broadcast from the 1989 International Plowing Match and Farming Show in Essex County, hosted by David Imrie.

All the videos can be watched in the player at the top of this page.
