Homicide investigators say Delta, B.C., shooting victim has died

The victim of a targeted shooting in Delta, B.C., on Monday has died and investigators are now treating the case as a homicide.

A statement Tuesday from the Delta Police Department identified the victim as 29-year-old resident Gurvinder Uppal, who police said succumbed to his injuries in hospital.

The shooting was reported at a home in the 8100 block of 112B Street, a residential area near McCloskey Elementary School, around 7:15 a.m., according to police.

Investigators say a white Ford pickup truck fled the scene of the shooting and was later found on fire in the 7300 block of Blake Drive.

“Our investigators do believe the burning truck is involved in the shooting investigation,” Delta police said in a news release following the attack, which noted the shooting and vehicle fire “have the hallmarks” of violence related to B.C.‘s ongoing gang conflict.

Major crime investigators are now treating the case as a targeted homicide, the department said Tuesday, offering condolences to the victim’s family.

The shooting marks the Delta’s first homicide in more than a year after the city recorded no murders in all of 2024, according to the department.
