Two people were taken to hospital following a stabbing early Thursday morning at a central Kitchener apartment complex.
Police were called to 269 Madison Avenue, near Mill Street, shortly after 4 a.m. in response to a 911 call.
Dennis Timbers, who does maintenance work in the building, says he saw the immediate aftermath of the incident.
“I saw one woman being escorted by two ambulance attendants,” he tells CTV.
“She was holding her side, and she had blood at the front of her pyjamas.”
Shortly before 5 a.m., another person was brought out of the home on a gurney by EMS personnel.
Police say both had apparent stab wounds, and were known to each other.
The man was later taken to a Hamilton hospital with serious injuries. As of late Thursday afternoon, he was recovering from surgery.
Homicide officers are investigating along with police detectives and domestic violence officers, but police spokesperson Olaf Heinzel says the incident is not being treated as an attempted homicide.
“It’s really too early to say at this point,” he said.
Neighbours say they’re surprised to hear of such an incident in an area that’s normally safe and friendly.
“It’s normally a quiet neighbourhood around here,” says Christina Joyce.
“There’s families and we all kind of know each other. To hear something like that is kind of uneasy.”
Police say they're not searching for suspects and there is no immediate concern for the safety of the general public.
