More than eight years after Denise Bourdeau disappeared, the second-degree murder trial of her common law husband is about to begin.

Bourdeau was last seen alive in the first few hours of 2007, leaving a New Year’s party.

Months later, her remains were discovered near the Grand River.

David Thomas, 52, wasn’t charged in connection with her death until 2011.

A judge and jury began hearing his trial in January 2014, but jurors were dismissed due to the result of legal arguments over the admissibility of evidence.

A new trial is expected to begin this week, with about 30 witnesses expected to be heard from over the course of eight weeks.
