Police officers from several communities around southern Ontario set up shop in Waterloo’s north end on Saturday to stop and check passing vehicles.

According to Waterloo Regional Police Staff Sgt. Eugene Fenton, the checkpoint was timed to coincide with a “field day” the Hells Angels were putting on in the area of Conservation Drive and Erbsville Road.

“They host it every year, and we always monitor it to ensure public safety and road safety,” he told CTV Kitchener.

Fenton said the gathering usually attracts hundreds of bikers to Waterloo, and police officers typically find a number of infractions on vehicles heading to the event.

In addition to Waterloo Regional Police and the OPP, municipal officers from Toronto, Brantford and Woodstock were spotted in Waterloo.
