Waterloo City Council has approved the construction of two towers on the former post office site on King Street North.

The corner site where King intersects Bridgeport Road East once housed the post office uptown.

One tower will be up to 24 storeys high, and together the two towers will house more than 300 condos that will be in the middle of Uptown Waterloo.

The development will also have commercial spaces and will be home to Launch, which encourages and facilitates young people getting into science, arts, engineering and math.

Council has envisioned it as a future landmark building in the neighbourhood.

The development still needs final approval from the Region, which will look at the amendments to the official plan.
