Waterloo Region police are investigating after an assault at an apartment building in Cambridge on Wednesday night.

A young female was sexually assaulted shortly before 8:30 p.m. after being approached by an unknown man inside an Avenue Road building.

There was a struggle, but the teenage victim was not physically injured.

Police have released images taken from surveillance video of the man believed to be involved in the incident.

Waterloo Regional police spokesperson Olaf Heinzel says “We are concerned, though at this point we’re treating this as a bit of a random act, a crime of opportunity if you will, and it’s important for us to reach out to the public and hope that we can identify this suspect.”

He is described as a white male, about 6’ tall, 150 pounds with a skinny build and shoulder-length brown hair.

He was last seen wearing a red winter jacket with a hood, grey pants, white running shoes and riding a mountain bicycle.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 619-650-8500 Ext. 8665 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
