A school in Fergus was locked down Friday morning due to what police later learned was a school project.

Around 10:30 a.m., police were contacted about multiple people walking toward Maranatha Christian School carrying what may have been long guns.

Wellington County OPP responded to the school and placed it in lockdown until the situation could be sorted out.

Eventually, they determined that the students were filming a project for school and were using pellet guns to do so.

At least one teacher was aware of what was going on, police said.

The lockdown was then lifted.
