The storm predicted by Environment Canada moved in early Monday morning. The heavy, wet snow mixed with rain, created a slushy and slippery mess.

As a result, Waterloo Regional Police have responded to numerous accidents. Many occurred on area highways, where OPP and tow truck drivers have been busy going from crash to crash.

Just after 7:00 a.m., a vehicle hit a hit a hydro pole just outside of Elmira on New Jerusalem Road.

A CTV viewer emailed the newsroom with a picture of the scene.

"I was sipping my coffee looking out the window at the snow when I saw a huge flash," writes viewer Jeffrey Selby. "I got in my car and drove to the scene to make sure everything was okay."

Selby says the female driver was fine, but the vehicle ended upside down in a nearby ditch.

Police showed up shortly afterward.

Power was out in parts of the area for most of the morning.

Environment Canada is expecting that the snowfall will continue through tonight.

However, commuters are hoping it will be finished before tomorrow morning's rush hour.

Meanwhile, police responded to another crash at Ottawa Street and Dundas Avenue at about 9 a.m. this morning.

A man died after his car hit the tree. But Police tell CTV that the man was already unconscious when they arrived, and the accident may have been caused by medical distress.
