A powerful storm system swept through southern Ontario as Monday night turned into Tuesday morning – but no serious damage was reported.

One of the most notable incidents was in Port Elgin, where Karen Devaul said a lightning bolt hit her clothesline and entered the home, causing a bathroom wall to cave in.

Other damage was reported in Ontario’s extreme southwest.

In London, heavy rains prompted a number of road closures.

A barn in Leamington was struck by lightning. Damage in that incident was estimated at $50,000.

According to Environment Canada, Sarnia saw 48.5 mm of rainfall, with London measuring 47.8 mm.

Closer to Waterloo Region, 38 mm of rainfall was reported in Dundalk, and 35.6 mm in Elora.

While the storm did prompt a number of tornado warnings to be issued – primarily along the Lake Huron coast – no tornadoes were reported.

A storm chaser reported seeing a potential twister south of Goderich, but Environment Canada officials said Tuesday that not enough damage had come to light to warrant an investigation.
