A 30-year-old man faces a number of charges after allegedly stealing a car, attempting to evade a police cruiser and crashing into a snowbank.

Perth County OPP say an officer noticed a suspicious call leaving a home along Perth Road 145, northwest of Sebringville, around 5 p.m. Wednesday.

The car headed southbound toward Highway 8, where a stopped OPP cruiser signalled for it to stop.

According to police, the car refused to stop – and in fact sped up in an attempt to avoid the cruiser.

That attempt was unsuccessful, as the car hit the front of the cruiser and came to rest stuck in a snowbank.

The man allegedly proceeded to run from the car, but was arrested by police a short distance away.

Police say they found cocaine and stolen property inside the car, which is believed to have been stolen from a home in Huron County.

Michael McLaughlin of no fixed address faces a number of criminal charges, as well as possession of cocaine contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
