A car trying to get away from police crashed into another car, killing a 94-year-old woman in that car’s passenger seat, authorities say.

The series of events began around 10:40 a.m. Monday.

According to Brantford Police, an officer had attempted to stop the car because its driver was wanted as part of an investigation into a stabbing.

The vehicle, a black car, allegedly refused to stop for the officer.

Not long after, it became involved in a collision with a blue car at Colborne and Gilkison streets in the West Brant neighbourhood.

It is not clear if police were pursuing the black car at that point.

Colborne and Gilkison crash

According to Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit, there were two people in the blue car at the time of the crash.

The driver was taken to hospital to be treated for broken bones and other serious injuries.

The passenger, a 94-year-old woman, was pronounced dead in hospital.

The man driving the black car was not injured. He was placed under arrest at the scene.

The SIU was called in to investigate, as it always is when someone dies or is seriously injured and an interaction with police is involved.
