ROCKFORD, Ont. - The Special Investigation Unit is now involved after a man was killed following a shootout with police near Rockford, Ont. on Monday evening.

Grey County OPP were called to a business on Highway 6 and 10 in Georgian Bluffs Township around 8:00 p.m. after a call about a male employee being shot.

Police set up a containment area around the business, Grew Boats Manufacturing, believing the suspect was still inside, when a pickup truck sped away from the property and drove past police.

Officers pursued the truck northwest of Owen Sound into the hamlet of Kemble, where a spike belt forced the suspect to stop the truck on Taylor Side Road.

According to police, around 9:50 p.m. the male driver got out of the truck holding a firearm and shots were fired by both police and the suspect, before he fled the scene on foot.

The man was found dead in a wooded area a short time later, around 10:30 p.m., with the assistance of the OPP Tactics and Rescue Unit and the OPP Canine Unit.

No officers were injured. The 44-year-old man who was shot at the business initially drove himself to Grey Bruce Health Services, but was later airlifted to London Health Sciences Centre where is he is recovering.
