Thousands of Kitchener residents spent part of the day without power Tuesday.

Shortly before 10 a.m., an outage was reported in an area roughly between Victoria Street, Lackner Boulevard, Fairway Road and River Road.

Kitchener-Wilmot Hydro reported that 4,450 people were without power at the peak of the outage.

Power was back on in that area shortly before noon.

About two hours later, the lights went out to 700 hydro customers in the area of King Street, Victoria Street and Westmount Road.

Hydro crews working on Earl Street were able to restore power to some of those areas within an hour, but others were expected to remain in the dark until later in the afternoon.
