The second of three men accused in the Nadia Gehl murder took the stand Tuesday and proclaimed his innocence.
Zdenek ‘Dennis' Zvolensky told the judge at the Hamilton courthouse that he didn't kill Gehl.
Zvolensky, along with Nashat Qahwash and Gehl's husband Ron Cyr, are each charged with first degree murder in the 2009 shooting death.
Zvolensky told the court he didn't shoot Gehl, that no one asked him to do it and that he was not present when it happened.
The Crown has alleged Cyr enlisted Zvolensky and Qahwash to commit the murder.
And earlier in the case, Qahwash testified that Zvolensky told him he had killed Gehl because Cyr asked him to.
On Tuesday Zvolensky refuted that testimony, claiming Qahwash wanted to get a gun for robberies and that his friend was the one who acquired it.
Zvolensky told the court that on the morning of the murder Qahwash asked him to park in the Forest Heights area of Kitchener.
He believed Qahwash wanted him to stash some loot after a robbery, but says instead he was given a gun to hold on to.
Zvolensky also testified he didn't hear about Gehl's murder until the following day when he saw it on Facebook.
It was only after that, he says, that he started to suspect Qahwash was involved and that he was holding on to the murder weapon.
