North Battleford teens arrested after allegedly stealing taxi

Two teens have been arrested and charged after allegedly stealing a taxi cab in North Battleford.

On Jan. 19 at around 5 a.m., officers from Battlefords RCMP detachment responded to an armed robbery on 110th Street, where police say the boys threatened the driver and stole the vehicle.

Police say the driver did not report any physical injuries.

Shortly after, police located the cab abandoned on Mosquito, Grizzly Bear’s Head, Lean Man First Nation.

With the assistance of Saskatchewan RCMP’s Police Dog Services, the suspects were tracked to a home where one of them were arrested.

Police say the other suspect was arrested while walking through the snow in the area.

During the investigation, police seized bear spray from the abandoned taxi cab.

As a result, an 18-year-old from North Battleford has been charged with robbery, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, carrying a concealed weapon, and disguise with intent to commit an offense.

A 17-year-old teen, also from North Battleford, faces charges including robbery, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, resist/obstruct peace officer, assaulting a police officer, carrying a concealed weapon and failing to comply with a release order condition.

The 17-year-old was not identified by RCMP as per the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Both of the accused are scheduled to appear in North Battleford Provincial Court on Wednesday.
