Residents of Martin Grove Village, a community or bungalows and trailers just north of Waterloo, have been boiling their water since the beginning of May – and don’t expect to stop anytime soon.

While not issued a boil water advisory by the government, Martin Grove owners Parkbridge have suggested residents boil their water due to aging infrastructure.

The community, inhabited mostly by seniors, isn’t hooked into municipal water and sewer services.

Ontario’s Landlord and Tenant Board held a hearing on the issue Tuesday, with about 35 Martin Grove residents in attendance.

Among them was Dora Robertson, president of the Martin Grove Village Residents Association.

“We’ve been asking specifically ‘What are you willing to do?’ The word was ‘You have our complete sympathy,” she says.

“Complete sympathy doesn’t cut it. People are very frustrated, and they would like something more tangible.”

Residents did receive one tangible benefit out of Tuesday’s meeting – a reduction in planned rent increases.

Woolwich Township Mayor Todd Cowan tells CTV News he’s written to the provincial environment minister on behalf of residents, and hopes the ministry can work with Parkbridge to rectify the situation.

Parkbridge did not comment on the issue.
