As the threat of a lockout at Canada Post appears less imminent, some preparations made in advance of a work stoppage are being discarded.

The Region of Waterloo announced Friday that it had resumed mail delivery of social assistance and other cheques three days earlier.

Although many social assistance recipients receive their payments through direct deposit, an estimated 200 do not.

There have been signs of progress in recent days in the ongoing labour dispute between Canada Post and the Canadian Union of Postal Workers, including the mail agency withdrawing a threat to lock out the workers.
