KITCHENER -- Police are investigating reports of a suspicious death in Wellington County.

The Ontario Provincial Police were called to the scene of Watson Road near Wellington Road 124 on Aug. 4 at around 7:15 p.m.

According to a news release, a passerby had found a deceased male along the roadway there.

The person has not yet been identified by police.

The OPP has started an investigation into the death under the direction of the police force's criminal investigation branch and its forensic identification services.

According to a news release sent just after 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Watson Road was still closed between Speedvale Avenue East and Wellington Road 124, more than 18 hours after officials first blocked off.

"While the investigation is in the preliminary stages, police want to remind members of the public to always be aware of their surroundings and personal safety," the news release reads in part.

An autopsy was scheduled for Thursday to determine the cause of death.
