Two puppies stolen from their owners after being advertised as for sale have been found and reunited with their owner.

Alexandra Likhoded’s Pomeranian dogs, Zara and Jeremiah, were kidnapped from their Brant County home in April after they were listed for sale online.

They were stolen by people who had responded to the ad and asked to view the puppies, then brandished a weapon and attacked the homeowner before leaving with the dogs.

Following an investigation that led police across the province, a man and woman from Pembroke were arrested.

The dogs were found in the Pembroke area as well.

Friday, they were returned to Likhoded.

“I’m so happy. I cannot believe it’s them in my arms,” she said.

Likhoded said she was afraid her puppies were sold to a mill, but always believed deep down that they were still alive and would be found.

Between their seizure in Pembroke and their return to their rightful owner, Zara and Jeremiah were put up at the OPP detachment in Paris.

“The joke is that I’m not really much of a dog person, but those puppies really grew on me,” said Det. Const. Jeff Gracy, who investigated the case.

“Everybody really enjoyed having them here for a short time.”

Twenty-six-year-old Joshua Mayne and 29-year-old Nicole Cameron are charged with robbery with a weapon, forcible confinement, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and mischief.

Likhoded says she no longer plans to sell the dogs, and will give them a special meal Friday night.
