An 18-year-old student from the University of Guelph is expected to make a full recovery after being stabbed on campus, Friday.

Just before 5:30p.m., police say two men had a pre-arranged meeting on campus to make a transaction. There was an altercation between them and one man was robbed and then stabbed.

Police say the victim, whose name has not been released, called 911 saying he had been attacked. He was taken to a hospital in Guelph but then transported Hamilton hospital with non-life threating injuries.

There is no word on whether drugs were involved in the incident.

Although the attack is thought to be isolated, students on campus are still very concerned.

“It’s kind of upsetting something like this would happen on campus,” said Brenda Hill a student at the University of Guelph.

U of G’s Assistant Vice-President of Communications, Chuck Cunningham, has worked at the school for 27 years and says violent incidents like this are rare.

“It’s clearly upsetting for all of us because this University is known as a very safe and supportive campus…and rarely do incidents like this ever occur,” he said.

Police describe the suspect as male, between five-foot-eight and five-foot-ten with a thin build and black facial hair. They say he is Arab, South-Asian or Hispanic.

Guelph Police are asking anyone with information to come forward.
