An 18-year-old woman struck by an alleged drunk driver in London has died.

Andrea Christidis was walking on the sidewalk near Western University Wednesday night, when a car jumped the curb and hit her. She passed away late Saturday night in hospital.

24-year-old Jared DeJong is facing several charges.

Police are also investigating another impaired driving death near Toronto.

60-year-old Arti Vyas from Mississauga was killed after being rear-ended by an alleged impaired driver on Highway 400 in Vaughn. Three others in the vehicle were taken to a local hospital.

25-year-old Jonathan Ian Brown faces various charges including impaired driving causing bodily harm and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death.

“If you're going to be drinking please don’t drive. There are plenty of options that you can have as opposed to getting behind the wheel after having a few drinks,” OPP const. Rob Visconti told CTV News.

In Waterloo Region, Oktoberfest means an increase in visitors and parties.

Waterloo Regional Police have been running RIDE programs every night, and so far say local drivers are behaving. Of approximately 3,500 cars checked Friday and Saturday night, only one impaired driving charge was laid.

Driver Seat, a company that will pick up both you and your car say they’re seeing increased numbers this week.

“Last night (Saturday) is second only to New Year’s Eve for us,” said Brian Bazely, owner of Driver Seat.

“Interestingly enough a majority of our clients are what I would call legally impaired versus really drunk. They just are doing the right thing by using a designated driver to get home,” Bazely said.

While some drivers are doing the right thing, others are not. According to the OPP impaired driving is suspected in 29 deaths this year.
