A Burford man is dead after a single-vehicle collision on Blenheim Road in Oxford County.  The crash on Saturday afternoon occured right outside of Snyder's Family Farm.

Police say a white GMC pickup truck travelling northbound on Blenheim Road struck a hydro pole and came to rest after hitting a tree on a residential driveway.

A male passenger in the vehicle was taken to St. Mary's Hospital in Kitchener and was later released.

Police announced Monday the male driver of the truck, John Vankruistum, 53 years of Burford, was later pronounced dead at Woodstock General Hospital.

Hydro to the area had to be cut for crews to replace the pole.  Nearly 5,000 customers were plunged into darkeness until around 2 a.m. Sunday morning.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
