Investigators in Kitchener are asking for the public’s help in identifying a man who they say is a ‘person of interest’ in Saturday’s triple shooting on Wellington Street.

Waterloo Regional Police released a security camera photo of the man on Sunday, taken as he was leaving a business of King Street West.

On Saturday, police received multiple calls around 4:50 a.m. from people who reportedly heard gunshots at Wellington Street, between King Street and Moore Avenue. When patrol units arrived, they found three adult men with gun shot wounds. Witnesses said it appeared they were shot in the legs.

“I heard ‘call the cops’, ‘call the cops’, call the cops’,” said neighborhood resident Ginette Ethier. “Only one was moving, really moving, that could get up.”

All three men were taken to Grand River Hospital. One of the victims has been sent home, and a second man is still in hospital. The third man was taken to a Hamilton hospital with multiple injuries.

Police won’t say if the three victims knew the shooter, but they have confirmed that there was only one shooter and they believe the victims were targeted.

Anyone who recognizes the security camera photo is asked to call police at (519) 653 7700 or Crime Stoppers at 1 800 222 TIPS (8477).
