KITCHENER -- Officials say a 48-year-old man is dead and a 77-year-old man is in custody following the incident on Saturday night in Kitchener.

Officers were called to a residence on Marianne Dorn Trail in the Doon area around 7 p.m.

“Upon arrival we located a 48-year-old man with serious injuries,” said Insp. Mark Crowell of WRPS. “He was later pronounced deceased on scene.

“I can confirm that there was no firearm involved in this incident. We are not releasing any information regarding the weapon.”

The victim and accused are reportedly known to each other. There is no threat to public safety.

A number of neighbours in the area confirm to CTV Kitchener that a family of five lives in the residence.

“I saw the old man,” said one neighbor. “They were taking him into the police car.”

A post-mortem examination is scheduled to take place in the coming week to determine the cause of death.

“It’s surprising,” said neighbor Jason Hodder. “You don’t expect this type of stuff to be happening so close to home so to see it is definitely a shock.”

An increased police presence is expected in the area as members of the major crime unit, forensic identification unit, and general detectives continue to investigate.
