Police say additional remains of Kelsey Felker have been found at two separate Kitchener locations -- one near a popular community trail and one not far from a national historic site.
The investigation into Felker's death began Saturday when her torso was found in a dumpster outside an apartment building on Frederick Street.
Stephen Johnson, a 37-year-old Kitchener man and resident of the highrise where the torso was found, was arrested early Thursday morning at a Kitchener motel.
Johnson is facing charges of first-degree murder and committing an indignity on a dead body.
Later in the day Thursday, officers were seen entering a wooded area off of River Road near Old Chicopee Drive and leaving the area with biohazard bags.
Insp. Kevin Thaler of the Waterloo Regional Police Service confirmed that remains, believed by investigators to be Felker’s, were found Thursday.
The remains have been sent to Hamilton for analysis and examination.
Thaler says investigators were led to the site through information from police investigators.
Police were also seen Friday morning searching Springwood Park in Kitchener, near Woodside Natural Historic Site.
“We’ll certainly go wherever the investigation leads us,” Thaler told CTV.
“One of the focuses will be determining cause of death. Our goal is to return Kelsey Felker to her family, to provide some measure of closure.”
Cadaver dogs and forensic officers were seen combing through the park, and firefighters were brought in to pump water from a section of nearby forest. Police say parts of Felker's remains were also found at that location.
A source tells CTV Johnson has been known to walk in the area around the park and at one point worked nearby.
Johnson’s next court appearance is scheduled for Feb. 15.
