One person was taken to hospital after a two-vehicle crash on Highway 8 in Kitchener.

The crash happened in the southbound lanes of the highway near the Sportsworld Drive exit, around 10:30 a.m.

OPP said two pickup trucks were involved in the crash.

“Apparently one of the vehicles rolled over,” said Sgt. Kerry Schmidt.

According to OPP, the person taken to hospital suffered only minor injuries, but both trucks received significant damage and were removed from the scene by tow trucks.

It was one of several crashes reported in a short period of time Friday morning in Waterloo Region.

Schmidt said OPP will have a significant presence on the province’s highways over what many are treating as a long weekend.

“We’re focusing on aggressive driving – that includes speeding, following too close, making unsafe lane changes,” he said.

“We need everyone to have respect toward other motorists.”
