KITCHENER -- Waterloo regional police continue to investigate a crash in Cambridge sent an elderly man to hospital with serious injuries.

The collision happened at the intersection of Guelph Avenue and Queen Street East around 4:15 p.m. on Friday.

Officials said it had been determined a 71-year-old man was walking on the sidewalk, when he was struck by a vehicle driven by a 19-year-old man.

The 71-year-old was taken to an out-of-Region hospital with serious injuries.

A section of Guelph Avenue was closed in both directions for the ongoing investigation.

Police say the investigation remain ongoing, and charges are pending.
