KITCHENER – Regional police are investigating a collision involving a school bus and a pedestrian.

Officials say a 57-year-old man was hit by the vehicle at the intersection of Ottawa Street South and Strasburg Road around 6:45 a.m. on Thursday.

He was taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

It's not clear what caused the crash, but police say that charges are pending.

Police closed off the northbound lanes of Ottawa Street to traffic while they investigated, but have since reopened them.

Student Transportation Services of Waterloo Region says it is aware of the incident and is following the investigation.

The Waterloo Catholic District School Board says it believes that the bus was on its way to its morning route and that no students were on board.
