KITCHENER -- Waterloo regional police say a pedestrian suffered serious injuries after a collision with a train on Thursday evening.

The incident happened in the area of Woolwich Guelph Townline and Highway 7 in Woolwich Township. Police tweeted about the incident shortly after 8 p.m.

Officials say a woman in her thirties was taken to an out-of-town hospital with serious injuries.

The police investigation on Thursday night was focused on a long laneway about 200 metres from the road.

Police, EMS and railway workers all responded to the scene.

GO Transit confirmed to CTV News that it wasn't one their trains involved in the incident.

VIA Rail told CTV News one of their trains may have been involved in the collision and that the incident involved a trespasser.

It's not clear if it involved a freight or passenger train.

Police say train services were delayed for roughly four hours by the joint investigation with CN Rail Police.
