Chatham-Kent police say they are consulting the Crown Attorney and the OSPCA after a puppy was killed early today during a domestic assault.

Police say the incident took place just before 3:30 am Saturday morning, on Louella Crescent in Chatham.

Police allege a 25-year-old man threw the puppy down the stairs of an apartment building after assaulting his common-law wife.

Investigators say the man threw the dog to the ground a second time when the woman tried to save the animal.

Near by neighbours tried to intervene, but were threatened by the accused.

Police say the man is due in court today for a bail hearing after being arrested for domestic assault and threatening.
