A 20-year-old man from Leamington has been charged with uttering threats and public mischief after online bomb threats were made against area high schools.

OPP say they were alerted by several concerned parents and students after anonymous posts were placed on the Web site formspring.me.

The threats were reportedly directed at Cardinal Carter High School in Leamington and Kingsville District High School and indicated Jan. 17, 2011 as the target.

Police say that officers attended the schools on that date and worked with school staff to ensure students remained safe.

Classes continued as usual while the schools were searched. Meanwhile the Essex County OPP Crime Unit conducted interviews and tracked the suspect online.

The man was arrested on Tuesday and released on a promise to appear. His first court date is expected to be Feb. 3 in Leamington.
